Abs Every Day?

Originally posted on BFL Women

Would you train your arms every day? If you were serious about totally changing
the shape of them, probably not. You'd train them hard and then give them time
to recover. Abs are no different. I train my abs very intensely with weights on
non-consecutive days. Weighted cable curls, plates on my chest, throwing
medicine balls, holding dumbbells between my feet. The day after an ab workout,
it hurts to laugh. I wince when I sneeze. When you're training that hard, doing
it again the next day never crosses your mind.

You can't spot reduce. Daily ab training does nothing to make your waist
smaller. Losing abdominal fat is all about your fork and your cardio. If you
want your ab muscles to actually show, you need to train them heavy and then let
them rest. That way the muscles stand out little bit and you will have more ab
definition at a higher percentage of body fat. If you do a few sets of crunches
every day, that's just not going to happen. You won't have any real muscle
development (because you're breaking them down every day), and so you won't have
any real ab definition until your skin is paper thin.

There are my thoughts anyway. It's a hot topic and plenty of people will
disagree with me. If you just want a flat mid-section and aren't worried about
muscle definition, crunch away. Me, I want abs like Batman. :-)
